Cistercian College, Roscrea is a seven day boarding school for boys situated within the grounds of the Cistercian Monastery of Mount St. Joseph Abbey. Within this Catholic environment the boys committed to our care “live and pray, study and play and seek the truth in harmony and mutual respect”.
Founded just over one hundred years ago by the Cistercian Monks of Mount St Joseph Abbey, the Cistercian College has since, its inception, been a leading educational establishment in Ireland.
Today it has the unique distinction of being the only college in the world managed by Cistercian monks of the strict observance. One hundred years on it is the involvement and influence of the monks of Mount St Joseph that makes Cistercian College unique.
The College encourages and assists students to become aware of and develop their individual dignity, their uniqueness and integrity, their academic and other personal abilities by full participation in all activities organised by the College.
The College has a proud record of academic achievement as evidenced by the outstanding results over a long number of years. The College offers a broad based curriculum delivered in modern classrooms and laboratories by experienced and committed staff. This work is complemented through the use of dedicated, supervised study halls. Our comprehensive pastoral care system reflects the importance we attach to the care and well-being of the boys entrusted to us on a seven day boarding school basis.
Participation in the non-academic activities is greatly supported and encouraged, primarily in a wide variety of games, in debating and public speaking, in music and drama and in a host of other past-times. Excellent facilities are provided by the College to cater for those activities including a student oratory and prayer room, a modern information technology centre, a ‘state of the art’ sports complex, an indoor swimming pool, golf course and in excess of forty acres of excellent quality sports pitches.
