Mount Temple Comprehensive School - Dublin
Mount Temple is a school based on diverse Protestant traditions and a spirit of inclusiveness and welcome for those of different, particularly minority, religious traditions and those of no religious tradition. Since its foundation, teaching and learning in Mount Temple has been influenced by the philosophy of Comprehensive education – the belief that diversity in learning enriches us all.
Mount Temple Comprehensive School operates under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin, and has, as a primary objective, the provision of state-funded second level education to the Protestant population of North Dublin.
Since its establishment Mount Temple has been co-educational; and in the 1970s this was part of Mount Temple’s innovative educational approach. Mount Temple has continued to be committed to gender balance as a principie.
In 2006/2007 Mount Temple teaching staff began the process of development of a learning policy. A working group was established – which was broadly representative of staff – and developed this draft interim learning policy, informed by other policy processes, for discussion by all the schools stakeholders. (The group is also identifying key areas of research for the development of a more long term learning policy into the future.) This informed subject planning in September and October 2007, and this current draft takes account of input from the Parents Association, Board of Management, teachers and students in late 2007 and early 2008.
